Italian brand’s rapid new flagship supercar spotted during testing.
No, it’s not a Ferrari panel van – this hunchbacked blob of black plastic is actually a prototype version of the Italian supercar brand’s upcoming Enzo replacement.

The manic new model – codenamed F70 – will reportedly receive the same 6.2-litre V12 engine as is fitted to the recently unveiled F12 Berlinetta, with the powerplant apparently good for 590kW. An extra 90kW of boost comes from a formula one-style kinetic energy recovery system, bringing the maximum power output to a whopping 680kW.
Ferrari engineers are said to be aiming to beat the go-to performance car hero, the Bugatti Veyron – that means it should be able to sprint from 0-100km/h in less than 2.5 seconds, with a possible top speed of more than 410km/h.
Sources suggest the kerb weight of the car will be less than 1200 kilograms, courtesy of expansive use of lightweight carbon fibre through the body and aluminium in the underpinnings.
The car seen in our spy images is a mule – a rolling test-bed of working components – but the black camouflage wrap does give us some hints as to how the final product could look.

The front-end styling will likely resemble the smaller 458 Italia’s, with a flat nose, elongated headlights, broad-shouldered stance and wing-like rear wheel arches. It’s hard to say what the body of the car will look like, but you can expect something spectacular.

Rumours suggest the F70 model will make its motor show debut at Geneva in 2013, while prospective buyers are likely to be given a sneak preview later this year.
The F70 follows on from a long line of range-topping ubercars including the F40, F50 and the (should have been F60) E
